This post marked the debut of The Autism Deficiency Society of North America. I was trying to find a way to discuss autism that was focused on strengths and opportunities rather than on deficits and pathology.
One of the many problems with discussing autism as if it were a disease is that it encourages people to think in terms of “this or that.” A person must be either autistic or have ADHD. But that’s not how the brain works, and the lines between one condition and another aren’t nearly as clear cut as most people believe.
